Name: Moncton Monday August Featured Crossfire
Description: In the seventh installment of our featured airports series, we will be doing a crossfire between St. Anthony (CYAY) and Greenwood (CYZX).
St. Anthony Airport is a small airport located 22 miles (35 km) northwest of the city. It has flights to Blanc-Sablon, Goose Bay, St. John's and Wabush all on PAL Airlines. CFB Greenwood is an RCAF airport and has been since December of 1939 when it opened. The airfield for RAF Station Greenwood was constructed between 1940 and 1942 with the first training units arriving as part of No. 36 Operational Training Unit (OTU) on March 9, 1942. Early training aircraft types included the Lockheed Hudson MK III, the Avro Anson, and the Westland Lysander, all from Britain's Royal Air Force. Until 2005, CFB Greenwood's airfield was home to the Greenwood Flying Club for civilian general aviation. The Greenwood Flying Club changed its name to the Greenwood Flight Centre and operated out of the Waterville/Kings County Municipal Airport, a small civilian airport located 12 nautical miles (22 km; 14 mi) east of CFB Greenwood. Since the closure of the Kings County Municipal Airport in April 2016, civilian operations have moved back into CFB Greenwood.
On our August 2nd installment of Moncton Monday, join us for a crossfire between St. Anthony (CYAY) and Greenwood (CYZX) while we reconnect the Canadian East Coast.
