  5. VirtualUA, Inc. is thrilled to announce their annual Holiday event, Home for the Holidays. The event will take place on December 12 at 2200z. The routing: Depart Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (CYWG), with a final destination of Chicago O’hare International Airport (KORD). Pilots who are on the VirtualUA roster are also eligible for giveaways (thanks to REX Simulations, Hifi Simulation Technologies, ORBX Simulations Systems, Flightbeam Studios, FS2CREW, Just Flight, Aerosoft, and Flight1.)   6. Another OTS in Winnipeg? You are not reading that wrong - we've got another exam! This time, it's Winnipeg Tower (S2) for James Norris. Did you know Winnipeg has TWO airports controlled by Winnipeg Tower? You can fly in/out of Winnipeg International (CYWG), or Winnipeg St. Andrews (CYAV)! Not that we're trying to cause more traffic... The fun starts at 2300z on the 21st of November. Good luck, James!
  7. It's time for Jamie Harding's S3 OTS, and we want all the traffic. Come fly inside the Winnipeg Terminal airspace (that includes Winnipeg International, St. Andrews, Southport and more!) on the evening of November 17th (or the morning of the 18th, if you happen to be on the east side of the pond - just like Jamie) and help another one of Winnipeg's students earn that rating!

  11. It's a big celebration in Winnipeg tonight as James White has passed his final OTS here in the 'peg. Congratulations James on your C1 rating, and thank you to everyone for coming out to fly!

Come fly inside Winnipeg Centre airspace (including CYXE, CYQR, CYWG and CYQT) on October 4th, starting at 0100z (that's 2100 Eastern on the 3rd) and help James earn that coveted C1 rating!

Come fly the friendly prairie skies from 2100z-0000z on September 23rd as we staff up the Winnipeg FIR - specifically, Winnipeg International (CYWG). Looking for places to fly? We recommend discovering some of our more major airports - Thunder Bay (CYQT), Saskatoon (CYXE) and Regina (CYQR) - as we'll have them all covered. You could also fly from one of our fields to Toronto Pearson (CYYZ) as they have an exam starting at 2330z. See you Wednesday!

It gives the Winnipeg FIR and myself the pleasure to announce the following changes to the instructing statuses within the FIR: Dario Marnika has been upgraded to an Instructor - thanks as always to Rob (VATCAN3) for his help facilitating this new rating. James White has been appointed to Mentor status. Please join the FIR in congratulating both Dario and James on their new statuses within Winnipeg!
  15. POSITION VACANCY: Winnipeg FIR Events Coordinator The Winnipeg FIR is now accepting applications for the position of the Events Coordinator! We are looking for a professional, enthusiastic and innovative individual to work on our team. A real team player, who represents Winnipeg FIR and shows our character to the world. Reporting to the FIR Chief and Deputy Chief, as well as VATCAN’s Executive Team if applicable. The position will consist of communicating with Winnipeg’s neighbouring FIRs, as well as working within the FIR, and coming up with creative ideas to promote the Winnipeg FIR. POSITION: Winnipeg Events Coordinator REPORTS TO: Winnipeg FIR Chief, Deputy Chief & VATCAN Executive Team (if Applicable) RESPONSIBLE FOR: Handling of the Winnipeg FIR’s events, as well as (but not limited to) the following: – Undertaking public relations duties on behalf of the FIR by providing event news & press releases to social media and various flight simulation related entities. – Identifying and develops events to generate traffic and to promote the FIR. – Implementing and overseeing approved events. – Coordinating with neighboring FIRs & ARTCCs to arrange support for events. – Maintaining relationships with virtual airlines, coordinates support for VA hosted events operating in FIR airspace. – Working with the FIR Staff to provide support when necessary. – Additional duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The successful applicant should meet the following minimum standards: – Be a member of good standing in VATCAN for more than one year at the time of application. – Demonstrated ability to make and keep commitments. – Expectation of availability to attend all scheduled meetings for the duration of the meeting and engage daily in email and voice communications with other VATCAN executive members. – Real world credentials and experience in internet, social media, and print/radio/video production processes. – Be able to work effectively and build relationships within a volunteer organization.   16. The Midwest and the Canadian Prairies are the best places to see those fall colours. The trees are changing colours, temperatures are dropping, and winter is right around the corner. The city of Winnipeg is only a short 400 miles from the Twin Cities. We're teaming up with our friends at Winnipeg to host a CYWG/KMSP crossfire. Come fly between KMSP and CYWG to enjoy the fall colors and temperatures before de-icing becomes the norm!

  19. The folks at Flight Sim Central are coming to Winnipeg, and are planning a fly-in to Winnipeg (CYWG)! They will be departing Lac Du Bonnet (CYAX) on the 13th at 1700z, and headed around Lake Winnipeg before coming in to land at Winnipeg International. Planned Route: CYAX VITAG GOREL PELMU ELVUX CYWG. See you on August 13th!
  20. Inspired by the beautiful prairies, welcome to Winnipeg's first Saskatoon-themed event! We're inviting all pilots - GA, Jets, Helicopters, whatever you've got - to come visit CYXE on the 15th for a day of flying! Take a short hop to Regina (CYQR), cross the border to Winnipeg (CYWG) or just go for a short flight to see the sights - this event has something for everyone! The party all starts at 2100z, and we'll have the FIR staffed until 0000z. We can't wait to see you there!
