  1. If you use the VATCAN.ca webmail, you may notice a short outage on our server! This means that any and all emails sent to an @vatcan.ca address, will bounce right back to our mail sender and be out-right rejected. This is because of a change of servers, as part of a plan to upgrade the VATCAN webmail servers. Essentially, for the time being, any VATCAN email is not going to function. This problem should be resolved within the next few days, with Wednesday as the planned restoration date. This post will be updated when service is restored. For now, we thank you for your patience!
  2. Sure thing! When looking for VATCAN2, we look for someone with experience, preferably working within a staff role in the past on the network. We also look at things like the person's personal experience within the division, their plans for the future if they were to be accepted into the position, and even references from other staff members (if applicable). Hopefully this was able to answer your question!

  4. Fixed! Thanks for the point out.
  5. It's that time of year again! Today, VATSIM has enabled ctp.vatsim.net to accept applications for the next installment of Cross the Pond Eastbound 2018, on Saturday, October 27th! This means it's time for applications! Details from VATSIM: VATSIM is now inviting applications from candidate airfields from North America (departures) and Europe (arrivals). Following shortlisting, these airfields will be presented for public voting to determine the routes for the upcoming event. We especially invite airfields to apply who have not partaken in the event during the last three years, as we are hoping to diversify our offerings to pilots during this iteration. We consider airfields that are within 2000 nm of latitude 50'N, longitude 040'W to be within range of suitability for this event, and we will consider adding *one* airfield between 2000 and 2500 nm to this iteration of the event (thus extending the possible airfields who can partake further). Please note that airfield applications must be made by an approved member of divisional, ARTCC or vACC staff. Applications from the general public are not accepted, as there is a considerable commitment to partaking in this event. By making an application, you confirm that you have controllers capable of staffing the airfield concerned and its surrounding positions, as well as committing to joining the pre-planning meetings in the run up to the event, and the routes planning meeting on the Friday night prior to the event. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 3rd October at 2359z. PLEASE NOTE THE SHORT TIME WINDOW. If you require more information, contact a member of the Cross the Pond planning team.
  6. Happy September, pilots and controllers of Canada! Along with the change of calendar, we have a couple of changes to announce regarding VATCAN's staff members! First, we would like to welcome Jon Peters into the role of Winnipeg FIR Chief! Jon has always been a key member of leadership in Western and Central Canada for VATCAN, and we are excited to see what the future brings for ZWG! Last, but not least, a change to Gander Oceanic: Andrew Ogden has taken the position of Director of Operations, while his predecessor, Ethan Mason, will be stepping down to become the Deputy Director. We thank Ethan for his hard work in his time as Director, and congratulate Andrew on his appointment!
  7. After careful consideration, including input from the VATCAN community, we are proud to announce that Dean Roy has been selected as Toronto (CZYZ)'s new FIR Chief! Dean has served his FIR with pride, and we are excited to welcome him into this new role! Congratulations, Dean!
  8. Allow me to make this very clear: there will NOT be any changes made without a very clear vote in favour of switching to a new platform. For the time being, and likely the near future, TeamSpeak will remain the normal method of communication for VATCAN. However, due to recent and past technical issues involving that server, we believe that is worth asking the question, just to get a basic opinion from the public.
  9. Please help me congratulate Mark Trumble, VATCAN's new Communications and Events Director! Mark has experience already working throughout VATCAN, and we all look forward to seeing him progress even further as we as a division welcome him into this new position with open arms! We'd also like to thank Aidan Stevens for his great work in his time in the position, and wish him nothing but the best in his VATCAN career. Thank you, Aidan, and congratulations Mark!
  10. Hello everybody! As you may have (definitely have) noticed recently, VATCAN.ca, our email servers and all VATCAN FIR websites have been down recently. As you also are likely able to tell, they're all back up and running! We thank everyone for their patience during this period of inconvenience.
  11. It is with great pleasure that Owen Kane has been selected as the new interim FIR Chief of the Edmonton FIR, CZEG! Owen steps into this new role after being the FIR's Events Coordinator, with a C1 rating in the division. VATCAN also wishes to thank Matheson Shenher for his hard work in the role of FIR Chief, and we wish him nothing but continued success, both personally and here on VATSIM. Congratulations, Owen!
