Jeremy Peterson
For great views of New York City, join us, live and in person, as New York ARTCC convenes in downtown Newark, NJ for our summertime Live Event! We will be simulating real-ops wherein pilots have the ability to book real-world flights into the New York Metro (EWR, LGA, JFK) and Philadelphia (PHL). To accommodate our schedule, expect slot compression to fit the period during which we'll be controlling (i.e., we'll take the slots across the entire day and compress them into our event time frame, dropping any that exceed our capacity). Book your flight here! Note: bookings show departure time in UTC and includes all arrivals and departures into JFK, EWR, LGA, and PHL between 1600Z and 2300Z. The 30-minute padding on each side allows some variability in the flight times due to weather, equipment, etc. We'll have all major airports staffed, the center, and our TMU PIT (as it's called in New York Center) open. Any air traffic controllers who wish to attend from outside ZNY are welcome to, just send an email to events@nyartcc.org. More information will be available shortly so stay tuned! Important: event period as noted in the banner is subject to change. This post will be updated if a change occurs. Jeremy Peterson
This summer's live event is different from last year's because we will be controlling for a much shorter period (6 hours) than last (12+ hours over 2 days). Nevertheless, we will be incorporating many of the same features as last year as well as a few new ones. Here is a schedule of events day-of: 1500Z - 1550Z (11:00am - 11:50am) Controller arrival. Note: please make it a priority to arrive at the venue during this period. 1550Z - 1614Z (11:50am - 12:14pm) ZNY briefing. 1615Z (12:15pm) NY Metro Hotline activation. 1615Z - 1629Z (12:15pm - 12:29pm) Regional telcon (audio link) (webinar link). 1630Z - 1830Z (12:30pm - 2:30pm) Shift 1 controlling. 1815Z (2:15pm) Operations planning telcon. (if needed) 1830Z - 2030Z (2:30pm - 4:30pm) Shift 2 controlling. 2015Z (4:15pm) Operations planning telcon. (if needed) 2030Z - 2230Z (4:30pm - 6:30pm) Shift 3 controlling. 2230Z - 2300Z (6:30pm - 7:00pm) Controller breakdown. 2300z (7:00pm) Optional dinner. What to bring: Controlling equipment ID Badge and/or position card from last year if you have it (note: I will not be making new ones for this event; expect updated ones the next live event) Projectorx Bluetooth speakerx xOnly one person needs to bring a projector and speaker. Please respond with your OI if you plan on bringing one. Planned setup Newark, Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Philly will be separated into their respective areas. Liberty and ZNY will be consolidated. TMU will be situated in the middle if possible. If there is not enough space to accommodate this setup, then Kennedy and LaGuardia will combine. Venue Info The restaurant is the Chateau of Spain at 11 Franklin St, Newark, NJ 07102 with cross streets of Broad St and Federal Sq. There is some street parking but your safest bet would be to SpotHero (or whatever other application you use for parking) it or find a nearby lot on your own. Much of the available lots are near the Prudential Center (2 blocks) and Penn Station (about 8 blocks). Flying In It's been mentioned in the other forum post but Class D/untowered fields are available in and around NYC, the Island (coordinate with a LI attendee), Philly (coordinate with a DC Metro or Philly area attendee), and the DC Metro (I have 2 seats available) including N07 (Lincoln Park), LDJ (Linden), FRG ($$$) (Farmingdale/Republic), TEB (Teterboro), LOM (Wings Field), 39N (Princeton), N87 (Trenton-Robbinsville) and many more. Consult your normal services for up-to-date fees, etc. Any questions and comments, please respond here or email me at events@nyartcc.org. Please respond to the other post if you are attending and have not responded on that forum already.
